When tidying the Meeting House library recently, I found an envelope of photographs of the interior of the previous Maidstone meeting house which stood a minute’s walk from here. In 1975 it was compulsorily purchased by the council who planned to build a multi-storey car park. So we were given the new site with compensation so our present building could be erected.
I wonder how many members remember worshipping there? Perhaps you could share your memories in the newsletter? For those interested in the long history of Quakerism in Maidstone, there are still copies of Clifford’s excellent book for sale in the meeting house.
